|aDetails the 1965 case, in which Janet Reimer gave birth to twin boys, Bruce and Brian, in the Canadian town of Winnipeg. Six months later a bungled circumcision left Bruce without a penis. Based on a radical new theory of gender development, the decision was taken to raise Bruce as a girl. In 1967, Bruce became Brenda. Thirty years after Bruce became Brenda, Horizon managed to find Brenda, who tells a story of unhappiness and identity crisis until she had reconstructive surgery to become a man again.
